Dreaming…The Path to Happiness



I’m not a fan of sugary drinks nor am I a death-defying stuntman, but maybe you can relate when I tell you that I was motivated by one simple sentence in a recent Red Bull commercial. I know, it sounds crazy and maybe even juvenile, but it enticed me to stop dreaming about my goals and instead go after them. The tagline was: “You can dream about it, or you can go out and make it happen.” Simple enough, right? Stop dreaming, start doing… we’ve heard it all before. But that unassuming statement was perhaps all I really needed to begin looking at my goals differently or at least what I needed to approach them more realistically.

I’m a dreamer. There, I said it. I have lofty goals and great ambitions. But turning those ambitions into a reality is an entirely different ballgame all together, right? Naturally, I’d like to believe that there’s a magical formula that I could just plug in somewhere and be on my way to unparalleled success, but life doesn’t quite work like that. It takes a bit of effort.

I want to capture more happiness in my life. That’s my goal right now and while it may sound simple enough, to me it’s an uphill battle at times. Your goal, whatever that may be, might also seem unobtainable at times, but achieving it may not be such a huge undertaking after all.

What if you took one of your goals and completed just one simple step to move you along in your path to obtaining it altogether? That would be doable, right? If one of your goals is finding happiness, then maybe you first figure out what it is that makes you happy. Try something new. Try that thing you always wanted to do. Find what makes you smile and do it again. The point is, if you keep DOING (regardless of what doing means to you), then you’re likely to achieve your goal much faster.

Look, whatever your goal is, take it one step at a time and do something about it. Who knows, maybe you’ll be one step closer to happiness!
